It's A Short Night For Me, Which Means You Get A Quickie.

From an op-ed in Tuesday's New York Times exploring the legacy of the ancient Greek philosopher Diogenes the Cynic:

When asked by Lysias the pharmacist if he believed in the gods, (Diogenes) replied, “How can I help believing in them when I see a god-forsaken wretch like you?”

Somehow......I find it comforting to know the respective attitudes of pharmacists and customers towards each other have remained remarkably stable through the millennia.

I'll bet you anything Diogenes' prescription got moved to the back of the line after that. And that Lysias may have "forgot" to send a prior auth fax to Diogenes' doctor.

Not that I've ever done such things.

I'll admit it in a heartbeat, the moment you:

A) ring the bell at the drive-thru when YOU CAN SEE/HEAR me talking to the other lane
B) refuse to acutally TALK to me (head nods, responses like "on the back" when I ask the last name, etc)
C) throw your crap at me when you've given me the incorrect card twice already

You will get the opposite of what you need. You want quick: sorry, 45m to an hour
Price: sorry others to type ahead of you
Insurance Rebill: I will do everything else I can do at that moment, type scripts, fill a few...until I can see you gradually getting pissed.

I know that makes me spiteful...but, fuck, really...have some sense and remember that you're trusting me with your life essentially, that I'm not an animal/robot unfit to interact with.

Geez, this entry got me fired up!

Who was the guy with the light, searching for one honest man? Oh, that would be the Drug Monkey! Good luck with that. Especially if you change out 'honest' for 'intelligent.' Not gonna happen on the other side of that counter. It's just not.

Rite Aid quarterly loss, cuts could help CVS and Walgreen increase market shares.
The Wall Street Journal (4/3, Merrick, Stynes, registration required) reports, "A pullback in consumer spending has exacerbated the pressure that drugstore chains were feeling from slowing prescription-drug sales and increased competition." Rite Aid Corp. "reported its seventh consecutive quarterly loss as executives...said they believe sales and profits will improve as the company becomes more efficient," although "the cuts carry a risk that rivals CVS Caremark Corp. and Walgreen Co. will increase their market shares." In addition, "Rite Aid executives said they are conserving cash in part by cutting expenses, such as store labor and advertising."

Tech hours are being cut left and right (doesn't matter which retail pharmacy you work at).

On a side note, ecstasy (or "empathy" when it was still used in marriage counseling) does its job for the PTSD folks. Problem is the rebound withdrawal (pop'em for the weekend, suicides by Tuesday).

A quickie from you? Anytime, DM. Now that's a way to get customer loyalty, I'm just sayin'. :)
